Superbowl XLVII

34/365
Watching the Superbowl.  Go 49ers!

34_365 02-03-13

The 49ers have been Robert's favorite team since he was a kid so he sat down and watched the Superbowl with me for a change.  I watch usually slightly for the game, but mostly for the commercials.  Though the past few years it's been hard to say which has stunk worse, the teams playing (I'm not a fan of The Saints) or the commercials.  It seemed when I was a young'un all of the commercials were epic. And the games were just as good.  The calls were made as they were supposed to be, the players didn't "cheat", nor were poor sports about any of it. The first half of tonight's game had a few poor sportsmen moments by the Ravens, but they came out of it. And it was great to watch the 49ers come back in the second half to come thisclose to winning.

My favorite commercials this year were Dodge Ram "God Made a Farmer" and Budweiser's Clydesdale "The Brotherhood" for all the feels (i.e. feelings), and Toyota's Rav4 Kaley Cuoco "Wish Granted" for the giggles.

So maybe next year.... we'll get to go to a NFL game (on our to do list) and Robert's 49ers will go to and win the Superbowl.

Say good-bye to football

Adam had his football uniform home this weekend for one last washing before it had to be turned back in and I wanted to take advantage of that and get a football posed picture of him in it.  We didn't have him do the individual photos with the rest of the team because they were extremely overpriced.  I just can't bring myself to pay $15 for one 5x7 photo, especially when experience with past football photos have taught me the quality isn't even worth a buck.  For the amount of money they want, I'd like my son's face to be in focus and not the grass in front of him.

Anyways, I don't think I did a bad job.

Football, sunsets, and silly kitties

Football season is coming to a close, and it's probably the last season Adam will play football.  He doesn't want to play next year out of worry about how hard 9th grade will be, and we are okay with that.  We will just have to wait and see if he wants to play after that.  We feel school is the most important thing for him right now.

At his football game the other night, we arrived at the field in time to watch a gorgeous sunset! I didn't capture as well as I would have liked, the colors aren't right - but it's close.

The lovely sunset became a lovely moon scene.

10/17/12  - On the line.  Adam's team(s)  (he plays back-up lineman for the other team) won a couple games, and while they played well Wednesday evening, the opposing team was just a bit better and we lost.  We have one more game left, a home game, and hopefully we'll win.

10/18/12 - Sunrise the next morning was pretty too, not as pretty though.  I grabbed this quick shot with my phone heading out the door to take Carus to school to meet with her teacher.  It ended up being the only photo I got that day (the day got away from me) so it became my 366 by default.

The Weekend-o

I'm still slowly making my way through the Eragon series, working on book 4, Inheritance and I found a typo.

Another football game - Yay!  They lost, but it was still a fun game.

Today started out crappy, but ended well.

I was woken around 4 am by my bladder and when I went to get out of bed I got one of those excruciating cramps in my calf.  While I was trying to massage the cramp out Timmy decided since I was moving that meant I could get him food and started meowing at me, Yoda decided that I could pick him up and put him on the bed and was trying to jump in my lap, and Leia decided that I could let her out and was pacing.  And I still had to pee.

When I was finally able to hobble into the bathroom I started having an asthma attack (I was breathing fine, but not getting enough oxygen).  That quickly bloomed into a bit of a panic attack (because not being able to breathe is something to panic about) and my attempts to not wake Robert were tossed out the window.  He went and got me an inhaler, and I shakily went back to bed.  Of course, after I let the dogs out and fed the cat.

The last couple hours of sleep weren't really sleep and I was a bit zombie-ish during the morning routines.  Lunches got made, the kids got off to school, dinner got put in the crockpot and I got to work.  It took until about mid morning for the zombieness to wear off and the inhaler puffs to fully kick in, and thankfully I got off early.

I took off early today to go to one of Adam's football games.  It was an away game in a town about 30 minutes from here.  They lost, which I think has a lot to do with psyching themselves out, but it was still a fun game to watch.

And this afternoon was just gorgeous!  It's nice to be able to spend a nice fall afternoon outside in the sun.

Adam is not in this one, but I like it.

You can't see Adam's number in this one.  He's the white jersey in front of number 92.

FOOTBALL!

264:366
Woo!  FOOTBALL!

Adam's team lost, but it was still a fun game.  He is the one with his hand on the ball; he played center (the one that hikes the ball to the quarterback if you didn't know).  Next game is Monday.  There are try outs at practice tomorrow to find out who is starting line.  He is going for starting center, and is pumped and excited about getting it.

This Weeks' Beginning

261:366
I got to spent Sunday morning with a friend and her new babies - twin babies (boy and girl).  She had a photographer cancel on her at the last second because they didn't want to drive out to her house after they knew where she lived before hand so I asked if I could help take some photos, especially a family photo.  It was a fun morning!

262:366
My celery is flowering.  I haven't harvested anything from the plant - wasn't sure when to do it.  I probably could cut a stalk or two off here and there, it doesn't look like celery in the store so I'm doing something different or something...?  I dunno.  We don't go through celery like crazy so it's no biggy.  It's interesting to see how it grows.

263:366
Leia gots to go bye-byes today. I took the dogs with me when I went to pick up the boy from football practice.
263_366 09-18-12

Speaking of football and the boy - I get to go watch a game tomorrow! WOO! I've been dying to go to a game and his first game was an hour drive away, during my work shift, and didn't give me enough notice to get the time off so I couldn't go.  Then he swung over to the other team to play as a back-up/relief and it was in the same place at the same time and not enough notice for me to get off early - again couldn't go.

Tomorrow, the game is AFTER work and it's a home game so we can go!

Dude, middle school football is rough!  In the two games his two teams have played, there have been injuries.  They've acquired a broken arm, a small concussion, and a broken clavicle.

I made Adam bring home his football uniform for me to wash.  He forgot it last week so it has been 2 weeks since last washing.  It had been worn in a 2 hour practice today right before I got my hands on it.  It was 90 degrees today and they run those boys.  I had to pull the sweaty pads out of the sweaty pants.  Ew!

They came out of the washer DRIER than they went into that washer.

There was also an half smooshed (and really clean) earthworm in the bottom of the washer.

They look better after one round through the washer, but I've sprayed them again with Spray and Wash and will put them through another cycle in the morning.  They won't be perfectly clean (and white again) but they will be cleaner and Adam won't be stewing in sweat and dirt for another week.

My mom job is done for the day.

09/02/2012 - Sunday

Adam's birthday of course! We had a little family party with dinner (steak as requested by the birthday boy) and chocolate cream pie (he didn't want a cake). I made two pies - one with a mint Oreo cookie crust and one with a regular Oreo cookie crust. Both were good.

247_366 09-02-12

My finger was up because I was getting him to hold on blowing out the candles a second for Daddy to get in position with the camera (which I had forgot to check the settings on and THANKFULLY the pic came out). I didn't hold him long enough for Grandpa Alan to get into position though - sorry!

Gramma Jerye came up for his birthday, the first birthday of his she has been to since he was born. Don't wait 14 years to be at another of his birthdays Gramma! And unfortunately she had to head towards home right after dinner. Visits with Gramma's and Granny's are never long enough...

Quilting Day! A friend and I are still working out the Mystery Quilts we started back in January. The ones that were supposed to be done by now. (Yay for a fellow procrastinator!) We've been trying to make a point of getting together once or twice a month (or as often as we can) and working on those quilts.

One of these is not like the others...

Oops, made a mistake. Oh well, it was only this one block and it was an easy fix.

Tuesday

Football season has started! Adam has been in practices for 2 weeks and is enjoying it. He did not want to pose for this photo, he was tired and sweaty and wanting a shower - but he does as I say.

Ignore the messy pantry please.

Final games - A tomb of a blog post...

I totally lied in my last post. There were also games on 10-16-10. They all just start blurring together.  It's madness I tell you, MADNESS!

I really enjoy watching the kids in sports and REALLY REALLY enjoy the benefits they get from them, but at the end of the season I.am.sports'd.out. I'm tired of practice schedules and game schedules and running around. I'm especially tired of rushing to get dinner done and in them in the 30 minutes I have from the time I get off work and the time it is too late for them to eat because they need to digest a bit or they will end up puking during their practice. And dinner after practice just isn't an option for us. Late dinners interfere with bedtimes and we are strong believers that kids should have VERY reasonable bedtimes. This year Carus graduated from 8 pm to 8:30 pm and Adam from 8:30 to 9 pm. That way they receive all the rest their growing bodies and minds (especially the minds) need and they do well behaviorally and academically in school and out of school the next day. It helps mommy not go insane.  It's also nice to have some alone time with Robert in the evenings.

SIDE BAR:  Forgot to do a Adam's broken tooth update!

So update on Adam's tooth - all gooood news.  It's a baby tooth that is broken because it is getting pushed out by an aggressively growing in adult tooth. All looks good and, even though I can never get the kid to brush his teeth properly or even just brush them, he has NO cavities. YAY!

10/16/2010
Adam's game: won 2 touchdowns to 0
Carus's game: lost 3 to 1

HA! Kid got air!

Carus's final game
Carus (last game) lost 6-2.  They were a VERY tough team and we did amazing against them. There was passing (which was something the girls had trouble with), but these guys were just a bit better than us.

10-23-10 (7)

Adam lost 4-1.
10-23-10 (32)

10/30/2010
Adam's final game

We played the Jerky Dad team again, but Jerky Dad was behaving and things felt a little less aggressive.

Unfortunately we lost 3 touchdowns to 1.

10-30-10 (14)

It was raining so there were a lot of times the boys on both sides dropped the ball, but occasionally the ball was stripped - this time my son did it. Adam is in the gold jersey on top of the kid in the black that just lost that ball in front of his helmet. The rest of the sequence to that play can be found on my Flickr.

And all the soccer pictures I uploaded are here:

I might add more pictures from the games to those folders over time, but not sure when or how many. I try to avoid pictures of other peoples' kids (that are very identifiable)...

04 November 2010

Sorry, no pictures for you!

Okay, I'm a slacker and because of it we are going to go back in time for the games that I haven't said anything about yet.

Also, I'm sick. So I'm using it as an excuse.  Carus brought home the death cold TWO weekends ago and I have been fighting it off since. I lost and now my lungs hurt. I need to cough it out, but don't wanna cause that hurts and I don't actually want to succeed in dislodging my lungs from my body, but anyhoo...

This is going to be a long post, but I'll try to keep things as short as possible. And I felt bad about the no picture thing so you'll get some. HA! NOT LAZY!

But I'm not changing the title. Crap, back to lazy.

GAMES!!!

TOODLES! I'm going to hit the NYQUIL!

Game 10-13-2010

Wednesday game

Sacking the quarterback.  He's done it before, but this is the first time I've been able to catch it (clearly) with my camera.  I even got a sequence!
10-13-2010 Wednesday game
Getting past the guy who was blocking him.

10-13-2010 Wednesday game
Hitting the guy with the ball.  You can't see Adam really well here.  He is on the side of the quarterback.
10-13-2010 Wednesday game
Holding on.  Adam is on his knees and trying to pull the guy down.

10-13-2010 Wednesday game

Still hanging on.  See Robert in the background?  Gray shirt, red hat, sunglasses.  He was holding the down score keeper tracker thing (do not know what it is called).

10-13-2010 Wednesday game
I'm not sure if Adam turned him to help bring him (QB) down, another player turned him to bring him down, or he (QB) turned to try to shake Adam and team.  Either way this is where he started to come down.

10-13-2010 Wednesday game
Adam's on the ground, you can see the 8 on his jersey.  He's still hanging on.

10-13-2010 Wednesday game
And now he gets to be on the bottom of the pile.

When Adam was on the field he seemed to be lined up to tackle a kid called Big Jake (name changed to protect the innocent).  He got his Big nickname because of his size.  That's him against Adam in the picture below.  He is a 5th grader and is much bigger than Adam.
10-13-2010 Wednesday game

Here Adam is getting by Big Jake, which he was able to do regularly.

10-13-2010 Wednesday game

Big Jake has a jerky dad.  Robert was holding the down flag thing yesterday so he was on the couch/team side of the field.  They keep the parents on the other side so that kids don't have to listen to parents comments because sometimes those comments aren't too nice.  Robert was saying every time Adam got passed Big Jake, Jerky Dad would be yelling at his son that he was a wuss and #87 was smaller and shouldn't be able to get by him and blah blah blah.  Basically it took all Robert had not to smack the dude up side his head.

And this isn't the first time Jerky Dad has been a little aggressive.  A few weeks ago Jerky Dad ran onto the field during a game to yell at another kid on the other team. A grown man felt the need to yell at an 11/12 year old kid (5th/6th grade) JUST because he had a good move, probably getting by Big Jake and that made Jerky Dad mad.  The organization suspended Jerky Dad and his son from a few games.

I don't think Big Jake should be punished for his dad's behavior - only if his is reprehensible, which according to Adam, can be - and I would have liked to see Jerky Dad expelled from all games, etc. But eh, what are you going to do...

I don't think we will play this team again, but if we do, I hope Jerky Dad stays on his best behavior.  I hope he does for any other teams they play against too.

In this picture below, they have Big Jake (78) and another boy on Adam.  I didn't get the picture, because the sun was going down and my camera had to think longer between pictures, but Adam did get through them.
10-13-2010 Wednesday game

Also, last night after practice (Thursday night) we found out that Adam broke his tooth, possibly at this Wednesday game... He says it doesn't bother him at all and it isn't hurting, but off to the dentist we will go. And we may end up getting another mouth guard. I've prepared myself for injuries, it's a tough sport.  I guess we've been lucky that other than some bruises and sore muscles we haven't had any injuries, but I'm a little frustrated that his tooth is broken.  I think it is because I've prepared myself for a broken bone and I'm expecting that.  Every time he holds his arm or rubs his wrists after a play, or limps off the field, I prepare myself for x-rays and broken bones - but none. HA! Strong bones!  Oh wait, teeth are a bone. Well there ya go, our first broken bone.

Wednesday games & football picture

There are three other teams in the league and Adam's team has started playing games against them on Wednesday's. But first - posed football picture.

Adam football 2010

Our first interleague game was 09/29/2010 - got some fun sun flare...  Made it hard to see the game though.

09-29-10 (37)

It was 3 touchdowns to 2 - the other team won.  But still fun to watch and they have fun playing. You can't see Adam's number in this picture, but he is almost directly aross from the ball with the long black socks and black sleeves.
09-29-10 (212)

That's Adam pushing on the other boy. He is number 87, you can sort of see the number... sometimes the easiest way to pick him out is by his socks or shoes or shoe/sock combo.

09-29-10 (21)

Second game was 10/06/2010

10-06-10 Wednesday night game

It was 1 touchdown to 0 - the other team won

10-06-10 Wednesday night game

Stay tuned for games from 10/02/2010 and 10/09/2010 (Adam and Carus) and 10-13-2010 (Adam)
